Why the hour after the scene matters as much as the scene itself.
The scene ends and something shifts. The adrenaline recedes, the body cools, and both people need a moment to come back. That moment is aftercare.
Intense play floods the body with hormones. Their withdrawal — sometimes called "sub drop" — can arrive hours or even a day later as fatigue, melancholy, or unexpected emotion.
What good aftercare looks like
Water, warmth, and quiet. A blanket, gentle conversation, reassurance. Nothing dramatic — just the deliberate signalling that the dynamic has ended and ordinary care has resumed.
Aftercare is where trust is repaid. Skip it and the most extraordinary scene can curdle into something cold.
Discuss aftercare needs during negotiation, before the scene begins. Knowing what to expect afterwards is part of consenting to what happens during.
